![]() ![]() Film mounting is better on the x50 models.but the Betterscan film holders are much better than either. Under testing, they made no resolution difference and an almost imperceptible contrast and flare difference. ![]() The difference to the 700 and 800 was better optical coatings. The 750 and 850 use the same two lens scanning system. Unfortunately at the moment I can't find what I've read. To take advantage may require a custom film holder (BetterScanning or similar), wet mounting, I'm not sure what. However, I've seen reports that seemed credible to me upon reading, that, under certain circumstances, the special optics in the V850 (and V750) can achieve somewhat better film scan quality. Epson Perfection V600 key specs: Compatible with 35mm and medium format Max film scan resolution: 6400 x 9600 dpi Dust/scratch removing technology 48-bit color USB 2.0 MSRP: 229.99 The Epson V600 retails for 229.99, although there were several deals around the web for under 200 at the time of writing this article. ![]() I suspect that the stock Epson film holders are a significant limiting factor. I suspect that in most cases, as that article indicates, a V600 and a V850 will deliver very similar scan quality. The V850 does have a LED Light, therefore is being ready into 1 sec, and the V750 have had a ordinary Scanner Kathode Light, which takes some time to get it's temperature, and being ready. The V850 isn't any bit better, than the V800, and both aren't better, than the V750. Because you're not scanning large-format film, the only other reported advantage of the V850 or V800 is supposedly-better film holder-but They V850 (and V750) apparently have somewhat-upgraded optics for film scanning compared to the V800 / V700 / V600 etc., but reportedly the difference is not large. * A V600 will probably get you almost as good a scan as a V850 for a lot less money. ![]()
